Is this app free?

Integrity Trees at Checkout is free to install. Customers add trees to their order and pay for them at checkout. Additionally the merchant can choose to make one-time contributions through the app. Billing cycles occur every 30 days and the merchant is charged for the total number of trees funded by their store. 

How does the spending limit feature work?

The spending limit feature acts as a pre-authorization on your credit card. When you install the app, you set a spending limit which represents the maximum amount that may be charged through the app during a billing cycle. If for example you set your spending limit to $1000 but only collect $600 in contributions, you will only be billed $600. For more information, visit Shopify’s information on app usage charges here.

What if I collect contributions that exceed my spending limit?

If the spending limit is reached before the end of a billing cycle, a few things will happen:

  • We will send you an email letting you know you have exceeded your spending limit.
  • The customer-facing tree planting widget will be temporarily removed from your store until the spending limit is increased or a new billing cycle begins.
  • The merchant contribution features will be disabled until the spending limit is increased or a new billing cycle begins.

Next steps: We recommend you increase your spending limit in the app and make a one-time contribution for any funds you collected but were not billed for. 

Note: If the spending limit is not increased, the spending limit will automatically reset at the beginning of the next billing cycle.

Can I make a contribution in addition to the trees my customers add to checkout?

Yes. At any point, you can click on the “Make a Contribution” button in the right hand corner of the app and choose to fund additional trees. This amount will be added to your total monthly contribution and will be billed at the end of your 30-day billing cycle along with the trees funded by your customers. 

Who plants the trees?

All of the trees your store funds will be planted by hand, by our company, Integrity Reforestation. We are a Canadian team, employing over 65 tree planters each year. Learn more about our crews here

Where will the trees be planted?

Our trees are planted in Canadian forests affected by wildfires. Our current projects are taking place in Ontario, Canada. We plan 1 - 4 years in advance and our project planning is ongoing. To learn more about current and future projects view our wildfire reforestation page. 

What kind of trees do you plant?

We plant a mixture of native tree species, often using red pine, jack pine, white spruce, and black spruce — it all depends on the forest and forest climate that we are working in. We collaborate with local nurseries to source seed from the appropriate zone, ensuring the best possible genetic match for the forest. Tree species selection is made through our consultations with local forestry professionals and Indigenous communities.

Why is it $2 CAD per tree?

$2.00 CAD per tree covers more than just the cost of the seedling. We use this price per tree so that we’re fully prepared to carry out every aspect of a high quality project.

  • Site assessments
  • Mapping
  • Project management & reporting
  • Transportation (quads, trucks, side-by-sides, etc.)
  • Remote camp facilities (kitchen, showers, mess tent, etc.)
  • Equipment (radios, generators, etc.)
  • Seedlings
  • Tree planter’s wages
  • Seedling delivery fees
  • Trucking (hauling our equipment and crews to get to our camp sites)
  • Quality assessments
  • Growth and survival assessments
What is Integrity Reforestation's approach to Wildfire Reforestation? 

Our approach to wildfire reforestation is grounded in data-driven decisions and informed by expert opinion and on-the-ground observations. Tree planting is prioritized in areas where natural regeneration is insufficient to reestablish forest cover. We are committed to remaining adaptive as new research and findings in the field emerge.

The process of determining which land requires active intervention begins with an assessment of the severity of the burn, as well as the history of the stand. Following this, a site assessment is performed and areas where intervention will have the greatest ecological impact are identified.

From there, seeds are sourced from the same geographical area of the burn, and are used to grow seedlings, ensuring the best possible genetic compatibility with the planting site. The seedlings are then planted by Integrity Reforestation’s tree planting crews. Each planting site is assessed for quality on the day of planting. At 2 and 5 years post-planting, growth and survival assessments are performed.
